LEMOC Member Spotlight - Chris and jerry derosa
When I (Chris) was in high school in the late 60’s, my FOREVER DREAM was to someday own a Mustang. I didn’t care if it was new or old. I was not a car nut and didn’t know a lot about them, but I did know that someday I would like to own a Mustang.
Jerry and I were married in 1972 and there was work and our 2 beautiful daughters came along. Our oldest Michele in 1975 and then Angie came along in 1982, so we spent all those years just living and raising our girls.
I still had my dream of a Mustang but didn’t know if it would ever come true. But, dreams are cheap and I had fun thinking about it and what color it would be and if it would it be a convertible or hard-top. I would look at picture and think … SOMEDAY.
I had major back surgery in 1989, and that was my Ah-Ha moment that everyone talks about. I decided that life was too short to just dream and not try to make things happen. After one year of recovery, I decided to go to nursing school, also one of my life long dreams. I graduated in 1994 and the first thing I did with my new found wealth was pay off my school loans, and the second was to BUY MY MUSTANG!!! I bought it in 1995, but it was a new 1994 Laser Red Convertible with a black top and black interior. A lady had won the car but didn’t want it, and turned it back to the dealer. I was in HEAVEN … my dream had come true.
Now Jerry, on the other hand, wasn’t sure I had bought the right car. He was looking at Firebirds and kept asking, “Don’t you want this instead, this is nice”? I of course said NO!
I drove the car home and after a few months, Jerry asked, “Can I drive it once in awhile”? I said NO, go buy your own. So, he bought a 1995 Laser Red Convertible with white leather interior and white top. We have vanity plates which say HerPoni and HisPoni.
We now have the best hobby a married couple could enjoy and that is having the same interest in the something that we can do together. We love being members of LEMOC and sharing our love of Mustangs with our friends. We are very blessed. We get many comments on our cars and the plates and that is fun. Jerry has worked hard on our garage in making it a nice home for our cars.
I can honestly say that no one should ever give up on their dreams, and if you want anything bad enough you can make that dream come true.
